Driving licence process

Driving Licence Process in Slovenia

Planning to get a driving licence in Slovenia? Understanding the process is the first step towards becoming a safe and confident driver. At B&B Driving School, we will guide you through every stage of the journey, from your medical examination and theory training to your practical lessons and final driving test.

The exact requirements may vary depending on the licence category, but the process generally follows the steps below.

1. First Aid

First aid training and examinations are organised by the Red Cross.

The First Aid Certificate has unlimited validity and does not expire.

Please note: A First Aid Certificate is not required for AM and F categories.

2. Medical Examination

Before starting your driving training, you must undergo a medical examination with an authorised occupational medicine specialist.

After the examination, you will receive a medical certificate that is generally valid for three years.

Medical examinations are available at:

3. Theoretical Part

The theory course (CPP) is completed at the driving school and covers Slovenian traffic regulations, road signs, and the fundamentals of safe and responsible driving.

After completing the course, candidates take a computer-based theory test at the official examination centre.

The theory test remains valid for three years.

4. Practical Part

Practical lessons are carried out with a qualified driving instructor and prepare you for safe and confident driving in real traffic situations.

The training programme generally includes:

  • at least 20 lessons for car, motorcycle, truck, and bus licences
  • at least 16 lessons for trailer (BE) and tractor (F) licences

The exact number of lessons may vary depending on the licence category and your individual progress.

After completing your training, you will take a practical driving test conducted by an official examination commission.

  • Car and motorcycle tests usually last one lesson
  • Truck and bus tests usually last two lessons

Once you successfully pass the practical test, you can apply for your Slovenian driving licence.

Already Have a Driving Licence?

If you already hold a driving licence issued in another country, you may not need to complete the entire driving licence process in Slovenia. Depending on the country where your licence was issued, it may be possible to exchange or convert it under specific conditions.

Check the requirements for converting your driving licence and find out whether you need additional training or testing.
